From the Presidents Sonja Gunderson & Katie Valencia
The countdown to the end of this school year is on! Even so, the PTSA is already starting to work on the next school year. The main item of business at our May 28th General Membership meeting will be to vote on the budget for the 2013 - 2014 school year. Please plan to attend and help decide how to best serve our students through the PTSA allocation of funds for next year.
We may be counting, but it's not over yet. You won't want to miss the Honor Choir concert on May 21st, nor the Variety Show on June 4th. Both are great evenings of fun entertainment. We hope the students have a terrific time on their field trips - funded by the PTSA through generous donations at the auction. Fairwood Chargers' Have Talent!
The variety show is June 4th at 6:30p.m. Start practicing your skit/dance routine. Permission forms went home on Tuesday, May 7th. We'll have a preview on May 29th at 3:00pm, also in the gym, to determine the show's line-up and make sure all performances are appropriate. We ask that performances last 2-4 minutes and props be easy to set-up and take down. Individuals and groups are welcome to sign up. Please fill out the bottom portion of the permission form and return it to your teacher no later than Friday, May 24th. Late entries will not be accepted. Click here for a permission form. If you pre-ordered your book they will be delivered to your child. Thank you Kendra Cabrera and Joel Miles for co-chairing this committee. Scholastic Book Fair was a Huge Success!
Thank you to all who supported our book fair! Also, thank you Sonja Gunderson, Tina Tufts, Ashley Ferluga, Jolene Irons, Kelly Choplin, Katie Valencia, Georgia Karlson, Daisy Ust, Carmelita Calo, Monica Messegee, Cathy Mulkey and Heather Harris for your help during the week. Lisa and I really appreciate the time you took out of your own busy schedules to work a shift or two or three! Because of your help we were able to staff each shift, including Tuesday's family fun night, which lead us to a very successful end result. The teacher's came in and picked out over $100 in free books for their classroom libraries. Each specialist (speech, counseling, library etc.) were also included to pick out some books as well. The teachers expressed their appreciation for all who volunteered during the week. They were so excited and extremely grateful to us as they were selecting their books. Thanks again and we hope to have you back at the fall book fair! Kelly Choplin and Kellie Warren will be co-chairing for 2013-14 school year. We would like to give special thanks to Lisa DePriest for the enormous success of the book fair over the past few years that she has chaired. This one was a record book fair and happens to be her final one as she moves on to Northwood. You go girl! "Their Stories Begin at Fairwood Elementary"
Our auction was a huge success! Thank you to all who attended in support of the programs that PTSA offers. Together we raised over $38,000! Extreme gratitude to all who volunteered to make this event happen.
